UpChannels
Daily Journal Management

Transform daily logs into
management insights

UpChannels gives everyone in your store or service business one place to write down what happened today: a daily note, what they worked on across operations, marketing, sales, service and management, and the day's inbound calls, outbound calls and door traffic. The counts chart themselves day by day, so a slow week comes with an explanation attached.

Team habits

What goes into an entry, and where the numbers end up

The Daily Journal in UpChannels is a shared end-of-day log for a small store or service business. Each entry has one required daily note, five optional work areas — operations, marketing, sales, service and management — and three counts: inbound calls, outbound calls and door traffic. Everyone on the team can read every entry, and the three counts are charted day by day above the list.

✍️Team Journaling

Every day gets one note
from each person who worked it.

UpChannels keeps one active entry per person per calendar day, so the closer and the manager — or two techs coming off different routes — each file their own and both land in the same list. Start a second entry for a date you already logged and the app points you back to the existing one to edit.

Weekly Metrics

Calls and walk-ins,
charted day by day.

The three counts on every entry are bucketed into one point per calendar day and drawn above the entries list, so the week you were slow sits directly above the notes explaining why. Charts and list share the same date filter.

How entries get written, and how you find them again

A prompt in every box

Each field asks for something specific — campaigns and content under Marketing, follow-ups and deals closed under Sales — so nobody stares at an empty page.

Filter by date range

Pick any range up to 13 calendar months. Entries come back newest first, seven to a page, and the trend charts redraw for the same window.

Common questions

Daily journal questions, answered

Can two people write a journal entry for the same day?
Yes. UpChannels keeps one active entry per person per calendar day, so your closer and your manager — or two techs coming off different routes — can each file their own for the same date, and both appear in the entries list. If you start a second entry for a date you have already logged, the app tells you an entry for that date exists and points you to it to edit instead of creating a duplicate.
Are journal entries private, or can the rest of my team read them?
The rest of your team can read them. The Journal Entries tab lists every entry your business has filed in the date range you pick, whoever wrote it, so treat the journal as a shared log rather than a private diary. There is no per-entry privacy switch in the app today — anything you would not want a staff member reading belongs somewhere else.
Does UpChannels count walk-ins and phone calls automatically?
No. Door traffic, inbound calls and outbound calls are numbers a person types in when writing the day entry — there is no door sensor, camera or phone-system integration feeding them. Setup costs nothing and needs no hardware, but the trend charts are only as complete as the habit of filling the counts in.
What happens to those numbers after I log them?
They get charted and scored. All three counts are bucketed into one point per calendar day and drawn as trend charts above the entries list, and your dashboard reads the journal directly — it shows "Log today's journal" until an entry exists for today, then switches to "Journal logged today". On a storefront dashboard — a bike shop, an appliance dealer, a furniture showroom — the door traffic you logged also becomes the denominator of the conversion-rate KPI: orders in the last 30 days divided by visitors.
How far back can I look, and how do I find one particular day?
Use the date filter at the top of the Journal Entries tab. It opens on the last 20 days and accepts any range up to 13 calendar months; entries come back newest first, seven to a page, and the three trend charts redraw for whatever window you chose. Each entry can be reopened and edited after the fact, including its counts.
Is the Daily Journal an add-on, or is it included?
Included. Daily Journal Management is part of every plan — Basic, Pro and Premium — and is not one of the paid add-ons like Bank Reconciliation or integrated card payments. See plans and pricing; the 14-day free trial needs no credit card.
Is this the same thing as accounting journal entries?
No — same word, different feature. The Daily Journal is a plain-language log of what happened in the business that day. Double-entry journal entries, the chart of accounts and the financial statements live in Finance, and nothing you write in the Daily Journal posts to your books.

Daily Journal Management is one part of UpChannels

The Daily Journal in UpChannels is a shared end-of-day log for small retail and service businesses: each person files one entry per day with a written note, what they worked on across operations, marketing, sales, service and management, and counts for inbound calls, outbound calls and walk-in door traffic. Those counts are charted day by day above the entries list and feed the dashboard, which keeps prompting for today's journal until the day's entry is in. It is included in every UpChannels plan rather than sold as an add-on.

UpChannels is an all-in-one platform for small retailers and service businesses — sales, inventory, customers, scheduling, delivery, payments and finance in one system — and a real team that builds your website, runs your ads, and automates the busywork. Every capability below is included in the same subscription, with no integration to wire up between them.

The product moves faster than this page. UpChannels ships updates most weeks, so a description here can lag what is already in the software. Where the two disagree, the running product is the current version — tell us if you find one and we will correct the page.
