STORIS is an ERP for retailers from $1M to $1B. UpChannels is a subscription for a store or two. The size of your business decides most of this.

STORIS and UpChannels are built for different sizes of business, and the honest comparison starts there. STORIS is a full home-furnishings ERP: a general ledger that posts every sale in real time and prints profit-and-loss statements and balance sheets for one or several companies, in-house installment and revolving financing with collections and Truth in Lending compliance, a Finance Queue that submits one credit application to a retailer’s primary, secondary and tertiary lenders, fifteen named financing and lease-to-own partners, open-to-buy and demand forecasting, and a logistics module that plans routes by cubic volume, pieces, stops and labour hours. It is priced by quote — "Request a Demo for a complete pricing consultation" — on an annual subscription with a one-time setup cost, its FAQ says it serves "retailers from $1M to $1B in revenue", and no free trial is mentioned on its pages. UpChannels is a $99 to $199 monthly subscription for a small store with a 14-day trial and no setup fee: the counter, the stock with conditions and photos on every serial, the service bench, the delivery truck with a signature and photos at the door and a tracking text to the customer, lease-to-own tenders reconciled at cash close, a double-entry ledger with P&L and balance sheet on Pro, and a team that builds the website and runs the ads. It has no in-house financing, no receivables with statements, no forecasting, and its QuickBooks sync is coming soon. A retailer that carries its own paper, runs several companies or buys to a forecast is a STORIS retailer; a store that wants a published price, a trial and the truck in the system is an UpChannels one (every STORIS fact checked 6 November 2026).

Strengths and limits, both sides

Written to the same standard for each: a limit of ours is stated as plainly as a limit of theirs. STORIS’s strengths are what their pages document; ours are what ships.

STORIS

Strengths

  • A complete ERP: a general ledger posting every sale, purchase and payment in real time, accounts payable and receivable, and profit-and-loss statements and balance sheets for one or several companies.
  • In-house financing as a product — installment and revolving plans, interest by credit score, Truth in Lending compliance, collections with promises to pay, letters, late fees and repossession depreciation.
  • The Finance Queue submits one credit application to a primary, secondary and tertiary lender, with settlement and reconciliation to the ledger; fifteen named financing and lease-to-own partners.
  • Appliance-specific accounting: rebate eligibility tracking, vendor chargebacks with authorization numbers, sell-through allowances, groups and soft kits for a matching suite.
  • Logistics with capacity rules by dollar value, pieces, stops, cubic volume and labour hours, warehouse picking by stage, and integrations with DispatchTrack, Descartes, Esri, Omnitracs and Package.ai.
  • Open-to-buy that updates when a sales order closes, demand and lead-time forecasting, and replenishment that drafts the purchase order.
  • Named partners for payments, protection plans, tax, credit bureaus and reviews; STORIS Academy for training; support Monday to Friday 8 am to 11 pm with weekend emergency cover; a release every six months; its own claims of 35 years, "500+ retailers" and 32 published case studies.

Limits

  • No published price: an annual subscription and a one-time setup cost, amounts by consultation, and a demo form that asks for projected annual revenue.
  • Its FAQ places its customers at "$1M to $1B in revenue"; no free trial is mentioned on the pages we read.
  • Proof of delivery, a driver app and a technician-facing mobile workflow are not described on its own pages; delivery routing to drivers goes through integration partners.
  • A condition grade or photos per serialized unit, commissions, a cash-drawer close and a staff time clock are not on the pages we read.
  • E-commerce is an API integration with a website platform you supply; no hosted STORIS site is described, and the two financing pages name different lenders.
  • The client’s system-specifications page lists Windows 10 or 11 Pro PC requirements (last updated January 2024, by the page’s own date).

UpChannels

Strengths

  • Published prices — $99, $149 and $199 a month per store — no setup fee, and a 14-day trial with no card.
  • The truck is in the system: one-click route order, a driver link with no app, signature and photos at the door even without signal, and a tracking link texted to the customer at five points.
  • Every serialized unit carries a condition and a status with photos and history, every movement is a permanent ledger entry, and a one-click audit finds and corrects drift.
  • Lease-to-own by provider, with the approval number kept on the awaiting-funding list at cash close until the provider pays, and a daily close with a blind count.
  • Service, delivery, stock, commissions, spiffs, the time clock and pay runs on every plan; a double-entry ledger with P&L and balance sheet on Pro and Premium; everything in a browser on any device.
  • A team that builds the website, runs Google and Meta ads and connects your other systems, quoted separately.

Limits

  • Not an ERP: no in-house financing, no customer receivables with statements or collections, no open-to-buy, no forecasting, no multi-company ledger.
  • No credit application goes to a lender from the register; UpChannels records the approval the provider already gave.
  • No manufacturer rebate, vendor chargeback or sell-through allowance tracking.
  • The card rate is not published; the QuickBooks Online sync is built and coming soon; the online storefront is built by the team and quoted.
  • Customer texts and the portal are on Pro and Premium only; advanced exports on Premium; the phone app is coming soon.
  • A smaller company with fewer named integrations and no published case studies yet.

Side by side, in detail

What you needUpChannelsSTORIS
What do I pay, and how is it sold?Pro is $149/mo per store (list $299), month-to-month, no setup fee; Basic is $99 and Premium $199. Free 14-day trial, no credit card. The prices are on /pricing.By quote. Their pricing page publishes no figures and says "Request a demo"; their FAQ says "STORIS offers a Standard Cloud Package as our introductory offering for small businesses" with "STORIS user licensees, all of our core technology … all at a low annual subscription and one-time setup cost", and "Request a Demo for a complete pricing consultation". The demo form asks for projected annual revenue, and the FAQ says STORIS serves "retailers from $1M to $1B in revenue" (checked 6 November 2026).
What is included, and what does another user cost?Every plan includes the counter, stock, service jobs, delivery, the time clock and pay runs; Pro adds the finance module, texts and the Customer Portal. Two users are included per store and extra users come in packs of five at $29/mo."All STORIS systems include our core software offering of Point of Sale, Inventory Management, Delivery Management, Buying Tools, Accounting, and Reporting"; cloud packages "bundle key technologies and allow you to choose advanced modules", and "retailers only pay for advanced features for their business as they develop the need for them". Per-user pricing is not published (checked 6 November 2026).
Does it track every unit by serial number, with its condition?Yes. Serialized units follow their serial from receiving through reserved, sold and delivered; each carries a condition (New, Open box, Used, Damaged) and a status from your own list, with notes, photos and history. Every movement is a permanent ledger entry; a one-click audit finds and corrects drift; a cycle count records the variance and the reason.Yes: "Track each piece of your appliance inventory with an individualized serial number", tied "to customers’ sales and service orders for precise warranty tracking and vendor chargeback management", with "Audit tracking by user and store location" and batch and radio-frequency barcoding for counting, receiving and picking. Mobile POS sells "as-is products" and inventory carries a "product status"; a condition grade and photos per unit are not described (checked 6 November 2026).
Can it run the repair bench — work orders, parts, a technician?Yes, on every plan: a service job with a lead technician and crew, a no-login link that gives each technician their day on their phone, parts from stock or ordered on a purchase order from the job, the customer’s equipment with its warranty dates and every visit since, and a warranty or protection-plan claim filled in from the job.Yes: service orders "can be created" on their own "for new customers or be linked to a Sales Order", a parts inventory with purchase orders tied to the job, technician schedules whose labour hours set route capacity, warranty expiry and terms, protection plans linked to the sale "to identify who pays", and vendor chargebacks that "track authorization numbers, documentation, and service reports". Technicians get "tickler messages" on a status change; a technician mobile app and customer notifications are not described (checked 6 November 2026).
Can it route a delivery and prove it was delivered?Yes, on every plan: arrange a driver’s stops in one click, send the driver a private link with no app to install, capture a signature, photos and notes at the door even with no signal, let the delivery settle the order, and message the customer at five points with a tracking link.Routing, yes, and deeper than ours: "Logistical Scheduling enables retailers to dynamically plan optimized delivery and service routes" with capacity by dollar value, piece count, stops, cubic volume and labour hours, multiple concurrent fulfillments from one sales order, picking by stage, and routing integrations with "DispatchTrack, Package.ai, Descartes, Esri, and Omnitracs" through which "GPS routes and updates" reach drivers and customers track deliveries. Proof of delivery, a native driver app, haul-away and partial delivery are not stated on the page (checked 6 November 2026).
How do customers pay — deposits, financing, lease-to-own, house accounts?Deposits with the balance collected later, special orders, store credit, gift cards, trade-in credit, loyalty points, and lease-to-own by named provider — Acima, Progressive, Snap, Katapult, FlexShopper, Okinus, American First — recorded with the approval number and held on the awaiting-funding list at cash close. No in-house financing, no customer accounts or statements, and no credit application sent from the register. The widest tender story on this site. Third-party financing where "the chosen provider will handle their payment plans directly" and STORIS manages "application, approval, authorization, settlement, and account reconciliation"; the Finance Queue submits one application "against the retailer’s available options for primary, secondary, and tertiary lenders"; in-house installment and revolving plans with collections; layaways, deposits and gift certificates in Accounts Receivable. Their financing page names only Versatile Credit and does not mention lease-to-own, while their technology-partners page lists Acima, Affirm, American First, Capital One, Concora Credit, Fairstone, Fortiva, Koalafi, Progressive Leasing, Smart Sales and Lease, Synchrony, TD Bank, Tower Loan, Versatile Credit and Wells Fargo (both checked 6 November 2026).
Can I take a card, and what does it cost?Either bring the processor you already use — UpChannels takes no percentage of your card volume — or turn on the Stripe add-on and charge a countertop smart reader from the order, at Stripe’s rate plus a platform fee shown in the app. We do not publish a blended number.Through "a STORIS certified partner": Adyen, Fiserv, Elavon and Shift4 are named on the Mobile POS page, and Adyen, Corpay, Fiserv, PayPal, Shift4 Payments and Tender Retail on the partners page. No rate is published on the pages we read (checked 6 November 2026).
Does it close the month — P&L, balance sheet, QuickBooks?Pro and Premium include a double-entry ledger with a chart of accounts, a profit-and-loss and a balance sheet printable to PDF, bills checked against purchase orders and accounts payable; bank reconciliation is a paid add-on. The QuickBooks Online sync is built and coming soon; until it is switched on, our team connects QuickBooks as part of system integration.Yes, as a core module: "The General Ledger in STORIS posts all activities from your point of sale, inventory, and back-office processes" in real time with audit stamps, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, and "financial statements for single or multiple companies including Profit and Loss statements and Balance Sheets". A QuickBooks integration "sends information from STORIS to QuickBooks" — GL transactions, AP merchandise bills, customer refunds and vendors. Bank reconciliation as such is not described (checked 6 November 2026).
Can I sell online from the same stock?Through our team: we build your website on your own domain — a product storefront with checkout, a booking-first service site, or both — running on the same system as your counter. It is quoted, not published, and not self-serve.Through their APIs: "Retailers can use STORIS APIs to build a unified, real-time integration between STORIS ERP and your chosen website platform", with current inventory and pricing on the site, card payments, taxes, delivery fees, deposits and discount codes handled in STORIS, financing applied to online orders, and customers who "check their order status, and manage their accounts". No hosted STORIS website and no named platform are described; pricing is by contact (checked 6 November 2026).
More than one store?Every plan: each location has its own profile, stock, tax rules and staff; stock is counted per location and transferred with the movement recorded; reports run per location or across all. Each store is its own subscription; one ledger per store.Yes, and at a larger scale: "Retailers can operate multiple companies" with financial statements per company, "Audit tracking by user and store location", and a published case study titled "How Broad River Retail Scales to 40+ Stores with STORIS" (their customer, their account). Per-store pricing is not published (checked 6 November 2026).
Does it pay the staff — commissions, time clock, pay runs?Yes, on every plan: commission on sales or gross profit to whoever sold and whoever did the work, split between up to three people, manufacturer spiffs, a PIN time clock with breaks, a published schedule, and a pay run exported for whoever files payroll. UpChannels is not a payroll provider. Not stated on the point-of-sale, accounting or inventory pages we read: commissions, a time clock, schedules and pay runs do not appear there. Technician work schedules are kept in Customer Service (checked 6 November 2026).
Who sets it up, and am I locked in?Setup help comes with every plan from the same team; month-to-month, cancel any time, no setup fee, and the trial takes no card.A one-time setup cost and an annual subscription (their FAQ), with "Implementation and Consulting", "Software Training" through STORIS Academy, "Technical Support" and "Operational Reviews" sold as professional services; data conversion is "standard" when "you can get the data out of your current system into an excel file". Support runs "Monday through Friday from 8 am to 11 pm" with emergency cover "10 am to 7 pm Saturday, Sunday, and most major holidays". A contract length and whether services are included or billed are not stated on the pages we read (checked 6 November 2026).

Choose STORIS if

  • You carry your own paper. In-house installment and revolving financing, interest by credit score, Truth in Lending compliance and a collections module are a product STORIS sells and UpChannels does not have.
  • You run several companies or a chain, and the books have to close in one general ledger with financial statements per company. STORIS posts every transaction to its ledger in real time; UpChannels keeps one ledger per store on Pro.
  • You want one credit application sent to three lenders from the showroom floor and reconciled when it settles. The Finance Queue and fifteen named lenders are STORIS’s; UpChannels records the approval you already have.
  • You buy to a forecast. Open-to-buy, lead-time and demand forecasting and replenishment that drafts the purchase order are STORIS features; UpChannels lists what is low.
  • Your deliveries run on DispatchTrack, Descartes or Omnitracs and you need the ERP to feed them, with routes planned by cubic volume and labour hours.

Choose UpChannels if

  • You want the price before the demo: $99 to $199 a month per store, no setup fee, and a 14-day trial with no card — against an annual subscription and a setup cost priced by consultation.
  • You are a store or two, under the "$1M to $1B" their FAQ describes, and want the counter, the stock, the bench, the truck and the books in one browser on any device, set up by the same team that answers the phone.
  • Delivery proof matters more than route capacity rules: a signature and photos at the door even without signal, the delivery settling the order, and a tracking text to the customer — none of which STORIS’s own logistics page describes.
  • You sell open-box, scratch-and-dent and used units and need the condition, the photos and the history on each serial, with a ledger and an audit behind the count.
  • You want a team behind the software — ads run, website built, systems connected — rather than professional services priced by engagement.
Common questions

Switching from STORIS

I am on STORIS today. What actually moves across?
Products, customers and serialized units come in from a spreadsheet: STORIS’s own FAQ says its data can be taken out to an Excel file, and our importer takes CSV and Excel, treats the SKU as the product and the serial as the unit, and fills in product fields that are blank. Open financed contracts, in-house receivables and the general ledger have nowhere to go in UpChannels — it has no customer accounts, and its ledger starts fresh on Pro — so an accountant closes those in STORIS and you start the new books at a month end. Run both for a few weeks while the stock loads.
Am I locked in on either side?
UpChannels is month-to-month on every plan with a 14-day trial that takes no card and no setup fee. STORIS is sold on an annual subscription with a one-time setup cost (their FAQ, 6 November 2026); its contract length is not stated on the pages we read, so ask before you sign, and if you are mid-term, run our trial anyway and decide at renewal.
Which is cheaper?
We can only show one side. UpChannels Pro is $149 a month per store, $1,788 a year, with two users and $29 for each pack of five more. STORIS publishes no figures — "a low annual subscription and one-time setup cost" by consultation — so the comparison is yours to make once they quote. What we can say is where the money goes: a STORIS quote buys an ERP with in-house financing, a multi-company ledger and forecasting; an UpChannels subscription buys a store system with delivery proof, a services team and a trial.
What gets worse if I switch?
Honestly, a lot, if you used what STORIS is for. In-house financing and collections stop existing. The multi-company general ledger becomes one ledger per store on Pro, and the QuickBooks posting waits for our sync. Credit applications no longer leave the register for a lender; you record the approval the provider gave. Forecasting and open-to-buy go away. If you used STORIS as a point of sale and a delivery board, little gets worse and the truck gets better.
Who should not switch?
A retailer who finances customers in house, runs more than one company through one ledger, or buys against a forecast. STORIS is built for that business, and UpChannels is not. We would rather say so than sell a $149 subscription to a company that needs an ERP.
Can I keep QuickBooks?
Yes, with either. STORIS sends general-ledger transactions, AP merchandise bills, customer refunds and vendor records to QuickBooks through its integration. UpChannels keeps its own double-entry ledger on Pro and Premium, exports any report as CSV, Excel or PDF, and will send each store day to QuickBooks Online as one journal entry when that sync is switched on; until then our team connects QuickBooks for you as part of system integration.
