Jobber runs the jobs. It does not run the stock you sell.

For a pure service business with nothing on a shelf — lawn care, cleaning, handyman, tree care — Jobber is the better fit, and cheaper for a crew: Connect is $139/mo month-to-month with five users included, against $149/mo plus $29 a seat for UpChannels Pro. Jobber’s own features page does not name inventory management, stock levels, purchase orders, barcode scanning or a retail point of sale (checked 14 September 2026), so a business that also sells goods runs the selling half somewhere else. UpChannels is the better choice for the business doing both — a furniture or liquidation dealer that delivers and repairs, an HVAC company that sells units as well as services them, a garden centre that installs — because the stock, the delivery and the books sit in the same system as the jobs. Be honest about headcount before you move: above about three people, Jobber is simply cheaper, and stays cheaper as you hire.

What you needUpChannelsJobber
What do I pay a month for a small shop?Pro is $149/mo per store (list $299), month-to-month. Basic is $99 and Premium $199. Free 14-day trial, no credit card.Published on their pricing page: Core $49/mo, Connect $139/mo, Grow $199/mo, Plus $499/mo, all month-to-month. Cheaper on a 12-month term ($39 / $119 / $169 / $439) or prepaid annually ($29 / $99 / $149 / $399). Their trial is "14 days you get full access to all of Jobber’s features on the Grow plan—no credit card required."
What does another user cost? The price is per store, not per seat. Two users are included and each extra user is $29/mo. Five people on Pro is $236/mo.Core includes 1 user, Connect 5, Grow 10, Plus 15; additional users are "$29/mo each" on every plan (their pricing page, checked 14 September 2026). Five people on Connect is $139/mo — less than our Pro at the same headcount. Above about three users, Jobber costs less.
Can it run retail inventory — stock, serial numbers, purchase orders?Yes, and it is the core of the product. Bulk stock and serialised units, every movement written to an append-only ledger, purchase orders and receiving, an audit that finds and corrects drift.Inventory management, stock levels, purchase orders, barcode scanning and a retail point of sale are not named on the Jobber features page (checked 14 September 2026). What that page names is Quote, Invoice, Online Booking, Requests, Work Orders, Schedule, Complete Job, Client Manager, Client Portal, Client Communication, Real-Time Notifications, Team Management, Get Paid, Business Dashboard, Financial Management and Job Costing.
Can it schedule and dispatch a job to a tech?Yes. Jobs are assigned against technician availability, skills, service area and a daily job cap, with actual start and end times, completion notes, a customer signature and a rating recorded on the job.Yes, and this is what Jobber is built for. Schedule, Work Orders, Team Management, Client Communication and Real-Time Notifications are all named on their features page (checked 14 September 2026). On depth of field-service scheduling, assume Jobber is ahead of us.
Can it route a delivery and prove it was delivered?Yes, as Delivery Routing & Dispatch — an optional paid add-on enabled per store, not part of the base plan. Build the day, send each driver a link, capture a signature with the name, GPS point and timestamp, a per-item manifest for partial loads, a haul-away record, and a tracking page for the customer.Routing is documented — it "automatically builds the most efficient routes in seconds" for "a single day, multiple days, or an entire week" — and their pricing page lists routing from the Grow plan ($199/mo month-to-month). Proof of delivery, photo capture on arrival and signature capture are not mentioned on their route optimization page (checked 14 September 2026). So both of us charge extra for this: theirs is a plan step up, ours is an add-on.
Can I take a card, and what does it cost?Card payments are a paid add-on, running on Stripe: charge a countertop smart reader in the store or send a payment link. The cost is Stripe’s own processing rate plus our platform fee, shown in the app before you turn it on — we do not publish a blended number here, and Jobber publishing theirs is a point in their favour.Rates are published on their pricing page: "2.9% + 30¢" for a credit card, "2.7% + 30¢" for Tap to Pay, and "1%" for a bank (ACH) payment. No monthly fee is shown for payments.
Can I record how people actually pay — cash, check, store credit, trade-in, lease-to-own?Yes. A payment can be cash, check, ACH or wire, store credit, a gift card, trade-in credit, loyalty points, a digital wallet, or one of eight named lease-to-own and financing providers — Acima, Progressive, Snap, Katapult, FlexShopper, Okinus, American First and a generic Financing — so a split-tender ticket reconciles by provider at month end.Documented: credit and debit cards, ACH bank transfer, Tap to Pay, and consumer financing "powered by Wisetack" — "pay over 3 to 60 months", "rates as low as 0%", and "It only costs you 3.9% per transaction". Lease-to-own and rent-to-own are not mentioned on their consumer financing page, and a cash drawer or in-store retail checkout is not named on their features page (both checked 14 September 2026).
Is there a staff time clock? No. We schedule technicians and record actual start and end times against a job, but there is no punch clock, no weekly timesheet to approve, and no payroll export. If that is what you need, Jobber has it and we do not.Yes, and their pricing page lists time tracking from the Connect plan: "Your team can clock in and out of assessments and jobs from the mobile app — making payroll prep fast and accurate." A team member starts a timer, or timers "automatically start and stop when entering and leaving a client’s property", and you can "sync all approved hours with QuickBooks Online to process payroll quickly". Jobber does not run payroll itself; payroll is not named on their features page (checked 14 September 2026).
Does it close the month — P&L, balance sheet, bank reconciliation?Pro includes the finance module: ledger accounts and journal entries produce a profit-and-loss statement and a balance sheet inside the app, with a balance check. Bank reconciliation is a paid add-on that pulls the bank feed and matches lines to payments and expenses.Their features page names Financial Management, a Business Dashboard and Job Costing, and their time-tracking page describes syncing approved hours to QuickBooks Online. Whether Jobber produces a profit-and-loss statement, a balance sheet or a bank reconciliation itself is not documented on the Jobber pages we could read — the Financial Management page linked from their features index returned HTTP 404 on 14 September 2026, so treat this row as unknown rather than as a gap.
Can a customer see their order and book their own delivery slot?Yes, with the customer portal add-on: the customer opens their order, pays the balance, picks a delivery window from real crew availability, and leaves a review afterwards.A Client Portal and Online Booking are both named on their features page, the portal covering "request work, quote approval, appointment details, payments, and referrals" (checked 14 September 2026). This one is a tie in kind; we have not tested either.
Does a person help me set it up?Yes, on every plan, from the same team — setup help is not sold as a separate tier. Our published paid add-ons are bank reconciliation, the customer portal, integrated card payments and delivery routing. Separately, and quoted separately, our services team builds websites, runs ads and does system integration.White glove onboarding — "Our onboarding specialists guide you and your team every step of the way" — scales by plan on their pricing page: 2 sessions on Connect, 3 on Grow, and unlimited on Plus at a stated $599 value. Data Import is listed as an add-on service at a stated $499 value (checked 14 September 2026).
Am I locked into anything?Month-to-month, cancel any time. The 14-day trial takes no credit card.Month-to-month plans cancel at any time, but the lower prices are not month-to-month: the 12-month option requires paying the full term, and on the annual prepaid option an early cancellation is "non-refundable" (checked 14 September 2026).

Choose Jobber if

  • You are a pure service business with nothing to sell off a shelf — lawn care, cleaning, handyman, tree care. Jobber is built for exactly that, we are not better at it, and you would be paying us for an inventory system you will never open.
  • You have a crew. Connect includes five users at $139/mo and Grow ten at $199/mo; UpChannels Pro is $149/mo for two with each extra seat at $29. Somewhere above three users Jobber is simply cheaper, and stays cheaper as you hire.
  • You need a real time clock. Jobber times a job automatically as the tech enters and leaves the property and pushes approved hours to QuickBooks Online for payroll. We have no punch clock and no timesheet approval at all.
  • You want a published payment rate and a published onboarding offer. Jobber prints 2.9% + 30¢, 2.7% + 30¢ and 1% on its pricing page and states what onboarding you get per plan; several of our add-on prices are quoted rather than published, and that is a fair thing to hold against us.
  • You want the surrounding field-service ecosystem — their AI receptionist, marketing suite, online booking, Wisetack consumer financing at 3.9% a transaction. That is a wider third-party surface than we offer.

Choose UpChannels if

  • You both sell and service: a furniture or liquidation dealer that delivers and repairs, an HVAC company that sells the unit as well as maintains it, a bike or garden shop that installs. Jobber does not name inventory, purchase orders or a retail point of sale, so that half lands in a spreadsheet.
  • Delivery is the hard part of your week. Routing the day, sending each driver their stops, capturing a signature with a GPS point and a per-item manifest when only half the load goes in, and giving the customer a tracking page. Both of us charge extra for routing — theirs starts at Grow, ours is an add-on — but only one of us settles the stock against what actually came off the truck.
  • Your customers pay in more ways than a card. Cash, check, store credit, a trade-in against the new unit, a split ticket, or a named lease-to-own provider — and the ticket still has to reconcile by provider at month end.
  • You want the month to close inside the system — profit-and-loss and balance sheet off the ledger, bank lines matched to payments — rather than exporting to an accountant and finding out in six weeks.
Common questions

Switching from Jobber

I am on Jobber today. What actually moves across?
Clients, jobs and invoice history are the three that matter, and all three come out of Jobber as CSV. Quotes and scheduled recurring work usually need rebuilding rather than importing, because the two systems model a recurring job differently. Set the inventory up from scratch — if you are coming from Jobber you almost certainly do not have stock records to bring, which is the reason you are looking.
Am I locked in on either side?
Jobber publishes month-to-month with cancellation at any time, but its cheaper prices carry a 12-month term paid in full or a non-refundable annual prepayment (their pricing page, 14 September 2026). UpChannels is month-to-month on every plan, with a 14-day trial that takes no credit card. If you are mid-term on a Jobber annual plan, run the trial anyway and switch at renewal.
Can I get my data back out of UpChannels?
CSV export is on the Premium plan ($199/mo). That is a real limitation worth naming: on Basic or Pro you can read and print, but bulk export is a plan up. Your accountant-facing reports — profit-and-loss and balance sheet — print to PDF on Pro.
What gets worse if I switch?
Three things. You lose the time clock, so hours go back to however you tracked them before Jobber. You lose their consumer financing integration, their AI receptionist and their marketing suite. And if you have more than about three users, your monthly bill goes up rather than down, because we charge per store plus $29 a seat while Connect bundles five users at $139.
Who should not switch?
Anyone who sells no goods. If your revenue is labour and parts you buy per job, the inventory ledger, purchase orders, serial tracking and retail tenders are weight you will carry and never use, and Jobber will be cheaper and better suited. We would rather say that than sell you a seat you resent.
Can I run both for a while?
Yes, and for a dealer it is the usual way in: keep Jobber on the service calls while you load inventory, purchase orders and the delivery board into UpChannels, then move the service side over once the stock side is live. Double-entering jobs for a few weeks is annoying but it is the cheapest way to find out whether one system really covers both halves for you.
